Image: Church Army chapel 026
Description: West elevation of Church Army Chapel, Blackheath, London, England. Built 1965. Due to site limitations, the great cross-shaped window is at the west end, although a smaller, similar window is repeated over the east door. The chapel was designed for a central altar, but the Church Army installed pews and a west-end altar in 1965. The pews and altar are now removed, and the building is used by Blackheath High School as a music room and dance studio. At the sides of the building there is a floating-roof effect, or apparent gap, between the tops of the window-columns and the roof. This effect is continued at the west and east ends with a row of dark blue engineering bricks between the top of the brick wall and the roof.
