The limestone sculpture was sculpted by Maurice Joanisse, then an apprentice carver under the supervision of Eleanor Milne, then Official Sculptor of Canada 1962 to 1993. Maurice Joanisse later served as the Official Sculptor of Canada – 1993 to 2006.
