Description: A photograph of the entrance to Conduit Head near Hill Lane in Southampton. Conduit Head is part of the now-defunct medieval water supply system, originally built by the Franciscan friars to bring in water from far outside the city walls. The stone building comprises a tiny gatehouse (shown) and several subterranean chambers.
