Description: The arms were officially granted on January 28, 1911 for the city of Castrop (with a mural crown in crest) and confirmed on November 24, 1926 for the new city of Castrop-Rauxel. The coucil decided on July 15, 1965 to delete the mural crown. The saltire are derived from the oldest seal of the Castrop Reichshof, dating from the late 1638. The seal showed the cross of St. Andrew. Later seals showed the same cross, but since the late 17th century the broken cross has been used.
