Description: Strumento usato per determinare il peso specifico del latte e verificarne l'eventuale annacquamento o una precedente scrematura, fu inventato da M. Cadet de Vaux agli inizi dell'800. Si presenta come una lunga ampolla di vetro con un bulbo terminale da un lato, una stretta cannula e un termometro dall'altro. La scala graduata all'interno della cannula permette una lettura del valore di densità. Lo strumento è contenuto in una custodia cilindrica di cartone grigio scuro lunga 24 cm del diametro di 3 cm. Il coperchio reca sul diametro un'etichetta in carta pianca con la scritta, vergata a china "Galat/tometro".
