Description: Convict-built embankment, Mount McQuoid, Great North Road, Bucketty, NSW. Distinctive markings on cut stones have been used in archaeological studies to estimate the number of convicts in an 'iron-gang' i.e. offenders sentenced to work in chains, or other metal restraining devices, on heavy labouring tasks like road-making. There are recognisable and recurring patterns, attributable to individual stone-cutters.
