The building is constructed of Port Chalmers breccia with Oamaru stone window framing, parapets and pinnacles. The building has an Italian marble statue of Justice over the Stuart Street entrance. The building continues to serve the Courts. The building is listed as a Category I on the New Zealand Heritage Trust Register.
