Description: The building at 307 East 12th Street, between First and Second Avenues in the East Village neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City, was once the Children's Aid Society's Elizabeth Home for Girls, built in 1891-92 and designed by Calvert Vaux of Vaux & Radford in High Victorian Gothic style. The home was named after Elizabeth Davenport Wheeler. The Elizabeth Home lasted until 1930, after which the building was used by Dr. Benedict Lust, who founded the American School of Naturopathy and the Naturopathic Society of America until 1945. It was then turned into a home for destitute young women by the Florence Crittendon League. In 1984 it was converted into co-operative apartments. The building was designated a NYC landmark on March 18, 2008. (Source: NYCLPC designation report)
