Built as a private residence around 1902, the Queen Anne-style building is designated as a contributing property to the Sheridan-Kalorama Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989. Previous occupants include (in order): E. L. Chapman, C. W. Cairnes, Homer Hart, U.S. Senator Robert M. La Follette, Sr., Tyler Kent, Ann P. Kent, Abner Bailey Kelly, and Rufus E. Milor.
