Description: Depicts Carlisle Castle, Cumbria, with grazing cattle in the foreground. Edward Waverley visits the captive Fergus MacIvor in Carlisle Castle in Waverley ch. 69. MacIvor is subsequently executed outside the castle gate along with Evan Dhu. Besides featuring in a number of Scott's works, Carlisle was also the scene of Scott's wedding to Margaret Charlotte Carpenter on 24 December 1797.
