Description: The Plaza, formerly known as Evergreen Plaza, was a shopping mall located in Evergreen Park, Illinois, (a southwestern suburb of Chicago) that operated from 1952 to 2013. During its operation, it was considered one of the first major regional shopping centers in the country. The mall's anchor store was Carson's. It also featured over 120 stores, as well as a food court. The mall was once known to provide convenience to shoppers who aimed to avoid heavy traffic and long, costly suburban drives. Several restaurants have expressed interest in the Evergreen Plaza as there was very high demand for premium goods and services as well as ethnic restaurants aside from the many Italian/pizzerias and sandwich shops. On May 31, 2013, the Plaza closed its doors at 8:00PM, after nearly 61 years of operation. The Plaza is scheduled for demolition in July 2013 and is to be replaced by an outdoor shopping center (which the Plaza once was during its first 14 years). Carson Pirie Scott and Planet Fitness are the only two contiguous stores that remain open and will continue business as separate buildings. Applebee's and Enterprise Rent-A-Car which are located in separate buildings from the main mall also remain open. The Plaza is scheduled for demolition in July 2013 and is to be replaced by an outdoor shopping center (which the Plaza once was during its first 14 years). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Plaza_#mall) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Text_of_Creative_Commons_...
