Description: This is a logo for Brookings, Oregon. Further details: Brookings is a city in Curry County, Oregon, United States. It was named after John E. Brookings, president of the Brookings Lumber and Box Company, which founded the city in 1908. The population was 5,447 at the 2000 census. As of 2007, Brookings had a population of over 6,455 within the city limits. The total population of the Brookings area is over 13,000, which includes Harbor (a CDP), and others. There have been numerous proposals to annex the nearby unincorporated areas into Brookings; while most attempts failed over the years, one large area north of town owned by Borax has succeeded. This development has the potential to add approximately 1000 homes over the next 20 years, although developers expect many of them to be occupied only seasonally." - from Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brookings,_Oregon. About the flag: The Bicentennial Year of the United States in 1976 also marked the silver anniversary of the incorporation of the City of Brookings. It seemed especially fitting that the city was designated as an official Bicentennial City. The 25th anniversary of the City of Brookings was celebrated July 13 in a ceremony held in a new municipal area in front of the city hall complex. Two flag poles were dedicated and a new American flag and the new city flag were hoisted for the first time." - from: www.currypilot.com/20010801110302/Community/History-of-Brookings/Brookings-goes-through-growing-pains. And on the same page you can see a photo of the flag, unfortunately in black and white. The flag was the idea of one of the Soroptimist club members and designed by Chuck Fenner for $250 in 1976.
