Description: Gold Locality: Harvard Mine, Jamestown, Jamestown District, Tuolumne County, California, USA (Locality at mindat.org) Gold leaf from this mine is an old California Gold Rush-era classic, rarely seen in speciens these days and then not in large ones very commonly. This attractive, flattenned leaf gold specimen is very large and showy for the price (in terms of visual impact if not weight). This gold leaf exhibits mirrorlike brilliance and is in fact used in the Gold issue of Lapis to indicate the maximum brightness a natrual gold can have: The text reads that "gold specimens can range from being dull to quite mirrorlike, as exemplified by (my italics for emphasis) the 9.3-cm specimen below from the Old Harvard Mine, Toulumne County, California." The lower photo is a scan of the Jeff Scovil photo which captures it so well for the book. 9.3 x 3.2 x >0.1 cm
