Description: Grand Canyon, Arizona, USA. Kaibab Plateau (view to west), geologic units from Kaibab Limestone (top), to parts of the Supai Group (sloping units at photo-bottom). (The new slope-forming unit at photo-bottom, dull-colored, is the (?)-Redwall Limestone (soft, erosional, slope-forming), and the geologic unit directly below the (often red) Supai Group (mostly slope-forming-(whiter) interlayered with short sections of cliff forming (resistant, often reddish) rock. (If bottom layer not Redwall, then a slope-forming, lower sub-unit of the Supai Group.)) Hermit Shale The top 3 units (white), cliff-forming Kaibab Limestone, slope-forming, dark Toroweap Formation, and then the whitish, cliff-forming Coconino Sandstone — the 3 sit upon the 1 unit above the slope-forming Supai Group (as described above, (red/whites, interlayed). It is a "grayish", or dullish, slope-forming, Hermit Shale. It ranges in about 300 ft thickness, (Roadside Geology of Arizona, by Halka Chronic). (The Coconino is about 350 ft, and the Kaibab on top is up to 450 ft. thick-(about 350-400 in this photo).)
