Description: Hotel Champernowne, Kittery Point, Maine; from a 1911 postcard. Built beside the Piscataqua River at the end of Lawrence Lane in 1890, it was torn down in 1927. The hotel was named for Captain Francis Champernowne (1614-1687), who settled at Kittery in 1637 and served as royal councillor and commissioner to Sir Ferdinando Gorges, founder of the Province of Maine.
