Thefirst possession of thefamily was North Morar,but they shortly after-wards possessed the landsof Glengarry, whichformed part of the lord-ship of Lochaber, and inthe first half of the six-teenth century theyinherited the lands ofLochcarron and others,on the west coast of Ross-shire, through Margaret, daughterand one of the heiresses of Sir Alexander Macdonald ofLochalsh. He died in 1420, and was buried in lona. Donaldmarried, first, Laleve, daughter of Maclver, the head of asept of that name, and had issue :— 1. John, his successor. He married, secondly, a daughter of Fraser of Lovat, andhad issue:— 2. Alexander, aftermentioned. 3. Angus. Text Appearing After Image: John is said to have married a daughter of Macleod ofLewis, but appears to have left no issue, and was suc-ceeded by his brother— 560 MAODONELL, LORD MACDONELL AND AROS Alexander, who died in 1460, and was buried in lona.He married Mary, daughter of Hector Maclean of Duart,and had by her:— 1. John, his successor. 2. Angus Mor, from whom the Macdonalds of Shian. 3. John (secundus) Odhar. John, died at Invergarry in 1501, and was buried at Killi-onan. He married a daughter of Donald Cameron ofLochiel, and had:— 1. Alexander, his successor. 2. Donald. 3. Angus. Alexander or Allastyr MacBan Vic Allyster, of Morarand Glengarry, entered into a bond of manrent with Colin,Earl of Argyll, Kings lieutenant in that part in whichGlengarry lies, on 5 February 1519.
