Description: Father Patrick Cuddihy came to Milford, MA in 1857 to head St. Mary of the Assumption. His Irish round tower was built on church property in 1895. These towers had been built in Ireland to help monks escape Vikings and other invaders. They were accessed by ladders that were pulled up to prevent penetration by others. "It may be folly, yet when you and I have passed away, the Irish in America will make a pilgrimage to the Irish round tower in Milford, Massachusetts."
