Description: Isaac Newton Van Nuys' family home. Isaac Newton Van Nuys, a Napa county wheatman and principal stockholder in the Farm Homestead Association, believed the land in the San Fernando Valley was better suited for grain. After four years of using the land for grazing sheep and cattle, he planted 3,000 acres of wheat. At the end of the harvest, he shipped 3 cargos of grain to Liverpool. This was the begining of successful wheat farming in the Valley. In 1880, the Farm Homestead Association was reorganized as the Los Angeles Farm and Milling Company and went into the flour milling business. 6 x 4 in. black and white photograph.
