En el centro de la composición la reina Isabel II de España, ataviada con el uniforme de capitán general, encabeza la cabalgata acompañada de su esposo Francisco de Asís de Borbón y Borbón Dos Sicilias, igualmente uniformado de capitán general, y por Francisco de Paula, infante de España. Acompañando a la joven reina Porion retrata algunos de los militares que intervinieron en los finales del gobierno de Isabel II: Narváez, O´Donell y Prim que aparecen destacados junto a otros generales que ya habían fallecido en el momento en que se realiza la obra como es el caso de Diego de León y Palafox.
