Description: K Street School, located SE corner of K and Santa Clara streets, constructed in 1889 of brick. [1] R.L. Young was the architect. [1] Total cost was $20,000, containing 12 rooms, of which eight were classrooms. [1] Featured two octagonal central halls, with hall on upper floor seating 600 as an auditorium. [1]The school functioned as the city's high school until 1896, when Fresno High School was dedicated. The K Street building later housed the Emerson Elementary School, and was demolished ca. 1930. This is the first graduating class of Emerson Elementary. The probable birth year of students is between 1885, when the city of Fresno was incorporated, and 1893, when Kings County was established, assuming school was K-6 and assuming Kindergarten age was 4 years old with 6th graders estimated at age 12.
