Description: In 1846 the Canadian artist Paul Kane visited Fort Vancouver, met John Coxe Naukane, and painted his portrait in a handsome white greatcoat with red piping. Inscribed at the base of the portrait is Cox’s claim that stretches across the entire span of Northwest History
