Description: This photograph was taken by me at the Gaurishvara temple (also spelt Gaurishwara or Gaurisvara) at Yelandur, Chamarajanagar district, Karnataka state, India. The inscription which belongs to the 17th century (1654 A.D.) calls the town Eleyindur ("town of the young moon") and compares it to the center or eye of a lotus surrounded by eight petals, which are the eight hills in the surrounding country.
