Description: Kigensetsu celebration was a national holiday in Japan on February 11. It was a festival of the Accession of the First Emperor and the Foundation of the Empire". Kigensetsu was enacted in 1872 and abolished in 1948. The photo is on a bridge in Ipponsugi Street, Japan. circa before 1940. The photo shows a large mirror on the Kamidana (Shinto altar) in the upper left, and a doll that looks like Emperor Jimmu and a prince (Emperor Suizei?) in the upper right. There is a bow of the ship, it was probably a ship-shaped car. The people in the picture are mainly young people and children in Ikoma Town. The holiday was re-established as National Foundation Day in 1966 (Kenkoku Kinen no Hi) to "prolong the founding of the country and cultivate a love for the country." Coincidentally, the Meiji Constitution was signed by Emperor Meiji on February 11, 1889. February 11 was also the day when General Douglas MacArthur approved the draft version of the model Constitution in 1946.
