Description: Arrival of w:Rufus Putnam and w:American pioneers to the Northwest Territory at the mouth of the Muskingum River at the confluence of the Ohio and Muskingum rivers, on April 7, 1788. These pioneers to the w:Ohio Country established w:Marietta, Ohio as the first permanent American settlement of the new w:United States in the w:Northwest Territory, and opened the westward expansion of the new country.
