Description: Portrait of Mary, Lady Monteagle. Coloured chalks, pen and ink on pink-primed paper, 29.8 × 20.2 cm, Royal Collection, Windsor Castle. Mary Brandon (c. 1510–before 1544) was the first wife of Thomas Stanley, 2nd Lord Monteagle. Notes on the drawing indicate a red damask dress and a red, white, and gold headdress. The intended effect might have been similar to that in Holbein's miniature portrait of Lady Audley, painted at around the same time. The French hood suggests a date around the end of the 1530s.
