Description: Picture of the Ohio Connecting Railroad Bridge (with the McKees Rocks Bridge in the background) over the Ohio River between Brunot Island and the Marshall-Shadeland neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on September 18, 2010. This picture was taken on Mount Washington near the Point of View sculpture. The bridge, a steel truss bridge, was built in 1915. It is still in use, and in 1999 the bridge was acquired by Norfolk Southern Railway. From the Marshall-Shadeland neighborhood of Pittsburgh, the bridge crosses the main channel of the Ohio River and connects to Brunot Island, it then crosses over the island, and from there it crosses the back channel of the Ohio River and touches down in the Esplen neighborhood of Pittsburgh. The bridge consists of two major through truss spans over the main and back channels of the river, of 508 feet (155 m) and 406 feet (124 m) respectively, with deck truss approaches.
