Description: Crotalus oreganus oreganus — Northern Pacific rattlesnake. In north-central Oregon. Diagnostic note: According to the photographer, this picture was taken in the United States in central Oregon near the towns of either Mitchell or Ashwood, which are not that far apart. These towns are in the counties of Wheeler and Jefferson respectively, which border each other in the north-central part of the state. Assuming this is correct, then according to the map provided by Campbell & Lamar (2004), this specimen would be an example of Crotalus oreganus oreganus, the northern Pacific rattlesnake. Since C. oreganus is the only rattlesnake species found in Oregon, the only other possibility would be Crotalus oreganus lutosus, the Great Basin rattlesnake, but according to the same map it is limited to the southwest of the state. The same conclusion can be drawn if the maps provided by Wright & Wright (1957), or Klauber (1997) are used. --Jwinius (talk) 12:36, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
