Description: Peeblesshire's Coat of Arms Two of the salmon are swimming downstream, while the centre fish swims upstream: the Latin motto 'Contra Nando Incrementum' means 'There is increase by swimming against the stream', taking inspiration from the annual migration of the salmon up the Tweed. This plaque is situated in Northgate, though the three salmon symbol occurs in many places around the town. (Source: 'Old Peebles' by Rhona Wilson, Stenlake Publishing 1998)
