Description: Just uphill from Cusco are the ruins of the Incan temple fortress of Sacsaywamán, meaning "Contented Falcon" in Quechua. Three tiers of zig-zag set walls here formed the defensive perimeter. Sadly, much of the site was dismantled for bricks by the Spaniards to build Cusco's many churches and colonial buildings, but what remains is still amazingly impressive for the size and perfect fit of the stone blocks making up its walls. Some are several tonnes in weight (the largest is recorded as over 70 tons!).
