Description: The plaque commemorating the founding of Hine's Corners (spelled Hines Corners on the plaque and in some other places) by Merritt and David Hine. The plaque, attached to a rock located at the intersection of Clark Rd and Oxbow Rd (often called Hines Corners on modern maps), was placed by descendants of the Merritt and David on August 9, 1925. Although it claims that Hine's Corners (which was later relocated be centered on the intersection of Crosstown Hwy and Belmont Tpke and renamed Orson) was founded in 1811, this is probably erroneous; all available historical sources dating closer to the founding put it between 1831 and 1841, with 1811 as the year that Merritt Hine came to Pennsylvania from Connecticut (or possibly Massachusetts), but say that he lived first in Ararat, in Ararat Township in Susquehanna County.
