Description: A 1 megawatt Poulsen arc radio transmitter built by the Federal Telegraph Co. in 1919 for a US Navy radio station in Croix d'Hins, Bordeaux, France. This unit, which could broadcast continuously at a power of 500 kW and for a short time at a power of 1 MW, was one of the largest arc transmitters ever built. Arc converters similar to this, with slightly lower power of 500 kW, were used in US naval radio stations in Annapolis, San Diego, Pearl Harbor, and Cavite, Phillipines to provide worldwide contact with the US fleet.
