Description: Powderham Castle, Devon, 1745 engraving by Samuel & Nathaniel Buck, inscribed below: "To Sr. William Courtenay, Bart., Knight of the Shire for the County of Devon, this south east view of Powderham Castle near Exeter is most humbly inscrib'd by his very obedient Serv:ts Sam:l & Nath:l Buck". Underneath in small print: "Sam.l & Nath.l Buck del. et sculp." Published according to Act of Parliam.t April 15.th 1745. Garden Court N.o 1 Middle Temple, London". The arms in the centre are of Sir William Courtenay, 3rd Baronet (1710-1762) de jure 7th Earl of Devon, created in 1762 Viscount Courtenay, impaling the arms of Finch, Earls of Aylesford, the family of his wife, which sinister arms are supported by one of the Finch griffins, the dexter supporter being the Courtenay boar.
