Description: Prior's Chamber and Crowstone, near to Prittlewell, Southend-on-Sea, Great Britain. In the background is the Prior's Chamber, the other side from Prittlewell Priory. On the right is an earlier version of The Crowstone. As the Crowstone plaque explains, this stone was first erected on the shore at Chalkwell in 1755 and brought here in 1950. This stone is very similar to the older of the London Stones in Upnor (on the left in this image) right down the words "God preserve the City of London" on the face visible here and the shield of the City on the rear. The stone at Upnor is dated 1204 so we can be pretty confident that when this stone was erected in 1755, it was replacing an older stone. More images.
