The map shows areas where a Protestant confession is the largest religious confession. In parts of Germany and the Netherlands Protestants are the largest religion but with exception of the most northern part of Germany adherence is typically well below 50 %. Subnational concentrations are shown for Northern Ireland, Latvia, Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Hungary, Romania, Poland and the Czech Republic. In the east of Northern Ireland, Anglicanism and Presbyterianism coexist and are of comparable importance. In Latvia and Estonia, Lutheranism is "dominant" only in the sense that it is the largest religious confession, but adherence is actually below 20%, as the majority of population is without religious affiliation.
