Description: The earliest known mail item from The Palmer River goldfields in northern Queenland. The Post Office was known as Palmerville but cancelled the mail PALMER. The word Immediate is at upper left to ensure immediate delivery on arrival but the 6 pence stamp for this extra service has been removed. The letter arrived in Melbourne on 15 June.
