Description: Remains of Greasley Castle Nicholas de Cantelupe, Lord of Ilkeston in Derbyshire and Lord of Greasley in Nottinghamshire, was a man of great wealth, a fearless warrior and a friend and confidential of Edward III. He was knighted in 1326 and in 1340 he obtained the King's permission to fortify his manor house adjoining Greasley church, which then became Greasley Castle. Greasley Castle Farm now stands on the site, but in the outbuildings are remains of the old castle wall. Also, traces of the moat and ramparts can be seen from the B600, such as here.
