Description: The Rhode Island Red Monument, at the intersection of Main Street, Adamsville Road, and Old Harbor Road in the hamlet of Adamsville in Little Compton, Rhode Island, was unveiled in 1925 to celebrate the breeding of the Rhode Island Red (Gallus gallus domesticus) chicken, the state bird of Rhode Island. The monument, which was sculpted by Henry L. Norton, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.In 1954, another plaque was placed on the stone wall of the Tripp Farm in Adamsville, at the intersection of William Sisson Road and Long Highway, where William Tripp first developed the breed.
