Description: California Historical Landmarks listing Solano County 779 Rockville Stone Chapel Described as "A tiny rock-walled church among great brooding trees that spread green arms around it and raise still heads above it as though in wordless prayer", the Rockville Stone Chapel came to life as an idea in 1855 and was funded and erected by members of the Methodist Episcopal Church South. Building started October 3, 1856 with the formal dedication in February 1857. Following the Civil War membership in the church declined, as well as the building. In 1929 the building was donated to Solano County in the hope that the county could restore and maintain it. The Depression of the 1930s delayed the work until 1940 when with sponsorship by the Board of Supervisors and materials and labor from the W.P.A., the chapel was restored and rededicated on Memorial Day, 1940. It continues to be actively used to this day (2019). Reference: http://www.bellavistaranch.net/suisun_history/stone_chapel_history.html
