Description: The Himawari-8 satellite acquired the picture of a polar low with a well-defined eye-like feature off the northwestern coast of Hokkaido, Japan at 15:00 JST (06:00 UTC) on February 15, 2016. Forming at around 00:00 UTC, the low rapidly developed into a gale-force system with ten-minute maximum sustained winds at 45 knots and the central pressure at 990 hPa when this picture was captured. It then made landfall over Rumoi Subprefecture of Hokkaido, quickly weakened and dissipated over the Sea of Okhotsk early on February 16.
