Description: This representation of the Great Seal of California was manufactured in 1857 along with many other state seals by brothers John and George Gibson, two stained glass makers from Philadelphia, and originally formed part of the ceiling decoration of the House of Representatives' chamber in the US Capitol Building in Washington, DC. It hung in an enormous iron skylight along with the other seals for over ninety years until 1949 when the US Capitol was renovated.
