Description: Shrewsbury Station, south end with trains. View northward on Platform 5, towards Crewe, Chester etc. The train on the left, headed by Stanier 5MT 4-6-0 No. 45298, is the 12.00 to Swansea (Victoria) via the Central Wales line. Stanier 4P 2-6-4T No. 42488 is at Platform 6. Shrewsbury was an important and busy junction of several main lines:- London Paddington - Birmingham Snow Hill - Chester; Crewe - Hereford - Newport (from which the Central Wales line diverged at Craven Arms); to Welshpool, Machynlleth, Aberystwyth and Pwllheli; also the Severn Valley line to Hartlebury via Bridgnorth, and to Stafford via Wellington.
