Description: St. Michael's Russian Orthodox Cathedral was built in 1844-1848. It burned down in a fire in 1966. The rebuilt church was consecrated in 1976. It must rank as one of the world's smaller cathedrals. This photo is geotagged. Most Russians left Alaska shortly after the U.S. purchased the territory in 1867. Many native Alaskans had been concerted to the Russian Orthodox church. They comprise most of the Russian Orthodox congregations now.
