Description: The athlete Sohn Kee-chung ran in the Men's Marathon at the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin. He was Korean, but he represented Japan since Korea was part of the Empire of Japan. The Japanese pronunciation of his name is: Kitei Son. The race started at 3 p.m. on 9 August 1936. He ran the 42.195 kilometers course in 2:29:19.2, breaking the Olympic record. Sohn came in first place and won a gold medal.
