Description: South Australian Railways T class steam locomotive no. 225 in Ellen Street, Port Pirie, on 22 August 1963. The locomotive, which has been shunting, is on the railway reservation that has been in the centre of Ellen Street since 1875. It is a few metres south of the intersection with Alexander Street; a crossing for Alexander Street traffic is just behind it. Lighting beacons indicating the railway reservation are visible in the background, as is Ellen Street railway station. The railway track closest to the camera is dual-gauge, to accommodate trains of both 1067 mm narrow gauge and 1600 mm broad gauge; others are 1067 mm gauge. Narrow-gauge and broad-gauge trains would go as far as Ellen Street station; freight trains (narrow-gauge only) would proceed further on to the smelters. The station closed in 1967 and the railway tracks were removed.
