Description: The 1882 St. James Catholic Church and parish rectory in Jamestown, North Dakota. The church served briefly as a cathedral when the Diocese of Jamestown, now Fargo, was established in 1889. After the present parish church was completed in 1914, the old church was used as an auditorium for St. John's Academy. It was destroyed in a fire in the 1930s. The rectory, which also served as the bishop's residence, was torn down and replaced in the 1950s.
