Description: St Aidan's Church, Caythorpe A nice example of a plain 'tin tabernacle'. The sign for the church identifies it as a 'Chapel of Ease in the parish of Lowdham'. A chapel of ease is a subsidiary chapel in a parish, originally to allow people who were perhaps too infirm to reach the parish church to attend a service and therefore avoid the fines for failure to attend. Services appear to be held about once a month. This chapel was dedicated in 1900, and is now a listed building. To the left is the contemporary village hall, now extended with a brick-built range on the far side, visible between the church and the hall.
