Description: Carrick's Sawmill at Enoggera, ca. 1922 View from Carrick's Sawmill, looking towards Farrington's Hill, Alderley. Virginia Brickworks' chimneystack is visible in the middle distance. (Description supplied with photograph). Saw-milling was an important local industry during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. There was an abundance of pine at Everton Park, and cedar, silver ash and later brush box at Mount Glorious. The Poultney family began saw-milling at Everton Park and then moved the mill to Pickering Street, close to Enoggera Railway Station. They sold this mill to Carricks in 1911. (information taken from: Barbara Gunn and Maureen Shannon, Enoggera district heritage trail, 2001).
