Description: The statue of General George Henry Thomas, a prominent commander during the American Civil War, and the National City Christian Church, the "national cathedral" for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) denomination, located on Thomas Circle, in the Logan Circle neighborhood of Washington, D.C. The statue and church are contributing properties to the Fourteenth Street Historic District. The bronze equestrian statue of George Henry Thomas was sculpted by John Quincy Adams Ward, and dedicated on November 19, 1879. The statue is one of seventeen Civil War monuments in Washington, D.C., that were collectively listed on the National Register of Historic Places on September 20, 1978. The statuary was also designated a D.C. Historic Landmark on March 3, 1979. Built in 1930, the National City Christian Church was designed in the neoclassical style by noted architect John Russell Pope. The church was designated a D.C. Historic Landmark on November 8, 1964.
