Description: Statue of Simon Stevin by Louis Eugène Simonis at the Simon Stevinplein in Bruges. Simon Stevin (1548/49 – 1620) was a Flemish mathematician and engineer. He was active in a great many areas of science and engineering, both theoretical and practical. He emigrated to Holland in 1581 and became tutor to Prince Maurice at about 1590.
