Description: Dry stone wall in the Sugarlands, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, in East Tennessee. This particular wall is located just west of Leconte Creek, along the Old Sugarlands Trail. When settlers arrived in the valley in the 1800s, sandstone rocks littered the ground. The settlers stacked them up in large piles, or, as in this case, used them in lieu of barbed wire fencing.
